Brosnan, who played James Bond four times, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter recently endorsed the idea of a woman playing the Bond.

The former 007 Agent, Pierce Brosnan, says now is the time to pass the legendary role on to women. Brosnan, who played James Bond four times, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter recently opened up about the upcoming James Bond film and endorsed the idea of a woman playing the Bond. Brosnan was quizzed whether the torch should be handed over to a female agent from Daniel Craig. He said, "Yes! I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.”

However, Pierce Brosnan admits that he doesn't think it would be happening any time soon under the current franchise producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson. "I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch," Brosnan said.

The makers of the Bond franchise have been criticised time and again for being sexist and outdated. Actress Lashana Lynch is reportedly set to play the new agent and take it forward from Daniel Craig. Lashana, who starred in Captain Marvel as Maria Rambeau alongside Brie Larson, has landed the role as the 007 agent in Bond 25, reported Mail Online. As per the report, Lashana will take over as a younger agent but before that will have the job of convincing Bond to emerge from retirement and save the world again. Bond 25's new villain is Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek.
